Hundreds of years ago, when shepherds had no escape from wild weather, they were forced to find a material that would keep their feet comfy. Using the resources they had around them (namely the sheep!), they discovered that if they weaved wool tightly it would create a shoe with amazing protection. That’s how “burel” came about.

We’ve been completely inspired by these shepherds and this heritage material to create our sneakers. The wool is locally sourced and crafted into the sneakers you know and love by highly skilled artisans on antique machines, with histories as impressive as the material they create.

Care FAQ

Baabuk sneakers & shoes are conveniently machine washable. We recommend using a wool detergent and the preset "wool", or washing at 30° C / 90° F on a gentle cycle. Insoles can be removed during washing. And make sure to air dry - do not use the dryer.

Wool is naturally water repellent, thanks to the natural waxy coating on its fibres. This means stains and spills will be less likely to affect the fabric. But do note, they aren’t completely waterproof, so will be less effective in heavier rain or deep puddles.

If your Baabuk sneakers have gotten wet, simply remove them, and dry at room temperature. Avoid putting them in a dryer. Wool doesn’t get damaged by water and won’t shrink, as the raw material has already been washed and felted – so don’t worry.

Both! Wool is an insulating and regulating material, so it will protect your feet from the cold in the winter, and keep them cool in the summer. So you can enjoy your pair of Baabuk at all times of the year.

Yes! The elastic laces are customisable, so you can tighten or loosen to match your fit and style. They can be re-laced into lots of different patterns and any leftover can simply be cut off to maintain a sleek look. Watch this short video for a few ideas - Elastic lace customization.
